Determining Full and Part Time Enrollment
Undergraduate Students
Full time enrollment for undergraduate students is 12 hours.
Nine hours is 75%.
Six hours is 50%.
Three hours is 25%.
Round down to nearest cut-off.
Exceptions for undergraduate students are made when:
- Their academic program restricts them from enrolling in 12 hours. For instance, students enrolled in student teaching may only enroll for six hours. Students such as these will be considered full time for that semester.
- Students enrolled in the last semester necessary for graduation may be considered full time if their enrollment is less than 12 hours.
Graduate Students
Graduate Student Enrollment Status is complicated, taking into account not only hours, but also program enrollment and graduate work requirements. Normal graduate full time load is nine hours. For these programs, three hours is considered half time. Graduate programs that require twelve hours (MBA day students) follow the undergraduate model as described above. Graduate programs that expect students to enroll in six hours (evening MLA, evening MBA, etc.) will consider six hours to be full time and three hours to be half time. Students who have departmental work responsibilities that contribute to their graduate education (normally fellowships and assistantships) can, upon certifica tion of their workload by the department chair, be certified as full time with three hours less that the normal course load requirement. Students enrolled for at least one hour of thesis or dissertation will be considered full time.
